    The Weather in the Imagination

    Lucian Boia
"The storm, in its capacity to dramatically alter landscapes, has always captured the imagination of artists, writers, and philosophers. In many cultural traditions, it has been regarded as both a divine punishment and a cleansing force. As a destructive agent, the storm signifies the power of nature to overturn human creations, yet it also holds a promise of renewal—a resetting of the world order."

Ilona Szalay’s  Storm is a testament to her ability to capture both nature’s physical landscapes and the landscapes of human emotion.

Each piece in this collection holds an almost meditative quality, inviting viewers to step closer, take in the textures, and engage with the interplay of light and shadow. Through Storm, Szalay creates a series of works that embody intensity and calmness, conflict and peace, urging us to reflect on the storms within and around us.

    Mary Shelley
"The storm appeared to approach rapidly; the heavens were clouded, and I soon felt the rain coming slowly in large drops, but its violence quickly increased.
I quitted my seat, and walked on, although the darkness and storm increased every minute, and the thunder burst with a terrific crash over my head... Vivid flashes of lightning dazzled my eyes, illuminating the lake, making it appear like a vast sheet of fire."
  • Storm Fear

    Robert Frost

When the wind works against us in the dark, And pelts the snow. The lower chamber window on the east, And whispers with a sort of stifled bark, The beast,‘ Come out! Come out!’—
  • These paintings speak to the ephemeral nature
    of transformation.
The way storms pass through us,
    rearranging what we thought unmovable,
    leaving traces of their power
    in their wake.
