Based in Lytham, Lancashire, Julie Airey is a graduate of the University of Lancaster’s Fine Art programme who has exhibited extensively across the north of England and Scotland.

Inspired by the process of art and image making, Airey’s works are defined by their fascination with the very essence of creativity. Thin sheets of muslin woven through with delicate thread, suggestive of silhouettes and figures, attest to the personal exploration the fact of their marking denotes. This sentimental process is then housed in robust wooden or acrylic boxes, as much a dimension of the work as that which it protects, lending the pieces a distinctly conceptual edge -- as much conventional painting as objets d’art.
